56th Sports Group Conference, Beijing, People’s Republic of China, May 7 – 9 2015
First of all, I would like to convey my sincere new year greetings to you on behalf of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, ABU in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 2014, has been an eventful year in terms international sporting events, which the ABU Sports is proud to be associated with, in enabling you to broadcast the events successfully.
I would like to send out this invitation for your kind participation to the next Sports Group Conference and related meetings to be held in Beijing, China from 7- 9 May 2015, to enable you to plan your schedules well ahead of time. For your kind information, the preparations are already in full swing, and the agenda for the meeting is being finalised.
The conference in Beijing will feature extensive discussions on the ABU Sports plans and strategies in the interest of our members, for us to remain relevant and competitive in a fragmented media market. With soaring rights fee, and fragmented market, its time for us to ponder over how we should go about doing business as usual, and yet be able to bring the sporting events to our audiences without compromise. These are the challenges we face, where economy in many of our members countries are on the down-slide.
Therefore, your contribution and commitment during the discussion towards developing a long term strategic plan for the ABU Sports in finding solutions and alternatives is of utmost importance for us to serve you better and effectively. The ABU Sports will also present its initiatives – such as the ABU Production and Transmission Service.
The Beijing conference will also see presentations on how to fully utilise New Media, and the Piracy and Copyright issues, which some of our members are affected with among others. It is my hope that you will be able take time off from your busy schedule and join us for this important Sports Group Conference and related meetings hosted by CCTV China.
We will be sending out the detailed agenda of various meetings and other logistical information related like venue, accommodation and visa invitation letters in due course of time.
