The ABU Secretariat invites applications for the post of DIRECTOR ABU NEWS

The ABU is seeking to recruit a high-calibre professional as a Director ABU News, starting in January 2018. The present Director ABU News will complete his contract with the ABU at the end of this year. Applications are therefore being sought to fill this important position with a view to having the new Director take over the role in January 2018.

This is one of the most senior positions in the ABU Secretariat. The Director ABU News is reporting directly to the Secretary-General, and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the News Department.

POSITION DETAILS
The key responsibilities of the position are:
  • Developing the ABU News Department strategy and annual activity plans and budgets to meet the requirements of the ABU Strategic Plan and the ABU Action Plan. 
  • Overall management of the Asiavision (AVN) news exchange. This includes improving the technical and editorial standards of AVN, exercising editorial control over the content, preparing the annual budget, expanding the AVN membership base, arranging training and capacity-building activities for members. 
  • Organising the annual meetings of the News Group and the AVN Coordinators and other news-related meetings such as the ABU Global New Forum.

REQUIREMENTS
Applications will only be considered from candidates with:
  • A recognised university degree in a relevant field 
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in news and/or current affairs coverage, including in management role 
  • The applicant should be a citizen of a country within the ABU region, and have experience in organising large events such as conferences, seminars and forums.

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS
Salary

The salary for this position will depend on qualifications and experience. If the successful applicant is a non-Malaysian citizen, salary and allowances will be free of income tax in Malaysia.

Annual leave
Twenty one (21) working days paid annual leave is offered.

Medical benefits
Group hospitalisation insurance cover will be provided in addition to reimbursement of 70 percent of outpatient medical and dental treatments up to RM1,800 a year.

The ABU is seeking to recruit a high-calibre professional as a Director ABU Programming. The present Director ABU Programming will complete his contract with the ABU towards the end of 2017. Applications are therefore being sought to fill this important position.

This is one of the senior positions in the ABU Secretariat, reporting directly to the Secretary-General, and responsible for running all ABU Programming activities.

POSITION SUMMARY
The key responsibilities of the position are:

  • The overall management and supervision of the ABU Programming Department, liaison with the ABU Programme and Copyright Committees, Programme Bureau and Radio Working Party, and taking action on decisions of the ABU on programming matters.
  • The preparation of an annual activity plan and budget for the Programming Department to meet the requirements of the ABU Strategic Plan and the ABU Activity Plan.
  • The planning, management and implementation of activities to assist ABU members in raising the standard of their content development skills.

Systems Support Officer - IT

Responsibilities:

The Systems Support Officer (SSO) is entrusted with the responsibility of providing support for IT systems employed by the Union and reports to the Manager IT. The SSO will be involved in day to day operation of networks, servers and all the other services provided to in-house clients and as well for the ABU members.  SSO has to coordinate and support ongoing system enhancements and upgrades. SSO has to involve in IT projects including evaluation, implementation, migration, installation, testing and any other ABU IT related work. The SSO is required to follow up with IT vendors on relevant matters.

Requirements

  • Advanced Diploma or Diploma in IT or IT related services from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • At least 3 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
  • Applicants must be willing to work in Kuala Lumpur.
  • Applicants should be Malaysian citizens or hold relevant residence status.
  • Preferably Junior Executives specializing in Technical & Helpdesk Support or equivalent.
  • Multitasking ability and excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Trouble shooting in LAN/WAN network operations and PC/Laptop environment
  • ISPs and email systems operation
  • Installation, support and troubleshooting of Linux, Windows 7/8, Mac operating systems.
  • Managing Windows 2008 / 2012 Server, LAMP, IIS, DHCP, Terminal Server, DNS, etc.
  • Good working knowledge in MS Outlook 2010/2013/2016, MS Office 2010/2013/2016 and Acrobat
  • Practical experience in MS Dynamic GP support & client installation
  • Knowledge in firewall / network appliances configuration will be an added advantage.
  • Familiar with virtualization technology such as Hyper-V, Citrix Xenserver & VMWare
  • Web site development and operation
  • Printer hardware & service troubleshooting and other network connected devices
  • Good level of client relations and interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Independent, proactive, punctual  and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to establish operational procedures including the establishment and operation of a help desk service.
